I've mentioned before that my first real work here at DyKnow was implementing the Work Groups feature back in DyKnow 5.0. I am quite proud of all the work that was done for this as well as the amazing ways that educators have embraced the technology for their classrooms. In that intial release, you could, at any time during a DyKnow Vision Session, see a list of students in the Session and group the students together. For particularly large classes (or if you simply wanted to spice things up a bit) you could randomly group your students as well. Finally, once your students were in Work Groups, you could save the groups for later by clicking the Save button on the "Work in Groups" dialog. You could then reload your selected groups when the time was right.
This seemed to work great, but there was always one remaining thorn in my side: you had to take class time to set up the groups. Yes, you could always randomly assign groups as well as keep the initial groups you had last time so at least you'd only have to set them up once, but what if you had some really good class exercises for pairs and others with larger groups? I really wanted to get to it for 5.1, but we simply ran out of time.
for any or all of your classes. Simple select the class from the Class dropdown and we'll load up your class roster as well as the previous groups you've created before. This way all you have to do in class is click Work in Groups, click Load, and click OK to get your students collaborating immediately. Now you'll have more class time for, well... class. You'll be able to take advantage of this feature really soon as the 5.2 release is just around the corner. If you can't tell, I've been trying to give you the sneak peak on what you should see, but if you can't wait for me to get to it, you can check out all the exciting features coming up on our What's New in 5.2? page on our website.
